Peace River (Week 2)

Wow, what a week it has been....I have caught up with so many old friends from when I lived in Peace River and have had lots of new adventures.

Cathy who we had visited withh at Baptiste Lake came to town for a short visit and she took me on a drive to visit some of the places I used to g to and to see what changes have happened in the town. It looks fairly similar with the main change being significant development up on the West hill including the opening of a huge 'Walmart'.

Some of the highlights from the week were having a party at my friends Ann and Dave's house...lots of the teachers from Springfield Elementary came to say 'Hello' and catch up on all my news. It was great to see them all and I got so busy talking that I forgot to take any photos. We all had a fun time looking at my blog and identifying the people in the staff photo from back in 1997. Ann dug out an old photo album with pics from our adventures together including a trip to the Bahamas on the May long weekend. We also wet out for Mexican for supper (dinner) with Sandy S., Ann, Dave, Cathy, Gail and Laura.

At the party as well as the gang I had already caught up with I saw Adela and Dave (who I spent Christmas Eve with many years ago and taught their daughter Caitlyn) Teddy, Barb and Rick, Martha and John, Deb.

On Monday I went to school with my friend Ann to help her setup her classroom for the new school year. The teachers all went back to work from Wednesday and the students all start again Tuesday the following week. They have had a very long summer break. The school is really different from when I taught there in 1997 - they all moved out about 7 years ago and the whole school was modernized...it looks so bright and fresh and has lots of technology in each classroom. Again I got so caught up seeing people I forgot to take any photos.

Monday afternoon I changed houses where I was staying and moved to my friend Sandy's house...that was a bit confusing with 2 Sandy's in the same house. Sandy Sidoroff called herself my 'Mum 1' and Ann called herself my 'Mum 2'. They both looked after me really well and shared 'custody' of me over the 2 weeks. This is a picture of me with them both. As you can see we all looked so happy to be together and spend time with each other after so many years [except for our holiday in Hawaii last year of course].

On Tuesday night my friend Sandy made me a very special dinner... this is her cooking Pyrogies for her and I and her husband Randy.

These are a Ukranian speciality and have a special filling, this time for us it was potato and cheese. Then Sandy S. cooked some bacon, onion and sauerkruat (type of sausage) for us to put over the pyrogies. They were very yummy...maybe I need to cook these back at school next term!

Later in the week I spent some time being pampered while my friends were all back at their school getting ready for the students. I found a place in town to do eye lash extensions and to tidy up my 'toy nails'.

My friend Sandy S was very generous and brave and loaned me her car for the days she was at work....it took me a while to get the hang of driving the car on the different side of the road again.....at least it was not snow and ice like it was when I first drove over here back in 1997.

On Wednesday afternoon I met up with a whole group of friends at 'Smittys' - a favorite old haunt for some milkshakes and 'wings' as it was Wing Wednesday. It was terrific to see Anne and Mike Arnold Mike and I tried to work out why we could not exchange text messages between my Australian iPhone and the phones in Canada. It was quite strange as we could call between phones (although this was very expensive).

This was also my chance to try out Patchoes (sort of like Nachoes but made with potatoe rather than corn chips) It was OK but not all that great.....don't think this is something I would make back home.
