Reunion Number 3: July 2012
So the suggested reunion happened again and this time we met in Maui and
I was thrilled to have Sandra S join us. I flew in first and then
collected Sandra from the airport later that night.
We had hired a car
[a jeep actually] and I was so glad it was Sandra driving when we
tackled the coast road when we went exploring the area....not quite what
we were expecting!
After that we headed to the Maui Tropical Plantation and were very
impressed with the demo of how to open a coconut...of course we would
need that for the ingredients for the Pina Colladas.
Cathy, Anne and Dave flew in the following night. The Gang were back together...feather boas and all provided by Anne.
We then spent the
days touring the island, relaxing and of course dining in fine
establishments such as Mama's Fish House.
We spent a huge day out on the water exploring different coves by
snorkelling, swimming etc. and capped off the reunion with a Luau!
So we all farewelled each other I flew over toe Honolulu for a further 5 days of 'beach' time.
Next reunion.......I am going back to Peace River....planning for August & September 2013!
Over recent years I have been lucky enough to travel to amazing places. Upon urging from friends I have decided to setup this blog to record my adventures and share with family and friends.

Reunion Number 2
Reunion Number 2: Hawaii 2010
The Bay where Blue Hawaii was filmed with Elvis Presley! |
Through a bit of luck and thanks to communication via Facebook I was able to hook up with a few of the team in Honolulu in 2010. Gail was already planning to be there with a friend and then Anne, Cathy and her daughter Lauren flew in for a reunion...we had the best time catching up and exploring the area and of course many hours relaxing at the beach.
Reunion Number 1
Reunion Number 1: 1999
After I left Peace River I maintained contact with a number of the friends I had met during my 12months away. I was thrilled when Anne came to Australia mid 1999 to visit and we toured the country together...travelling from Darwin through the NT down to South Australia and then up the East Coast and back to the NT...from recollection we did about 10 000kms in 4 weeks. Have not yet been able to dig up any photos from this reunion but will continue looking.
The start of the journey
The journey commences back in 1996.....
My journey for this travel blog commenced in December 1996. I had been living in Jabiru [in the heart of Kakadu National Park] in the Northern Territory of Australia. I applied for a teacher exchange and after some initial hiccups was posted to Peace River Alberta.I flew from Darwin via Sydney to see the family and then arrived in Edmonton, Alberta.
The Canadian teacher I was swapping jobs and houses with for 12months met me at Edmonton Airport...from recollection it was -37degrees that day!
I soon settled into my house, snow and all and then bought a car to get around for the year.
I started teaching my Year 1 class at Springfield Elementary School and worked with a fantastic bunch of people who went out of their way to help me settle in...once they got to know me a bit....In particular Anne was my 'buddy' who socialised, travelled and took me under her wing for the year, Sandra S taught in the classroom next door and became my golfing and beverage partner and took me to the 'Grey Cup final and Cathy my tourism manager...
The year went by with so many adventures and so many terrific memories. At the end of the year Anne and Barb took me back to Edmonton to fly home.....a year had gone by so quickly!
And the journey continues........
